Guernsey and Jersey gas prices to rise by 3%

A 3% rise in gas prices in Guernsey and Jersey is being blamed on rising global prices.

John Davies, commercial director of Guernsey and Jersey Gas and Kosangas, claimed the move had been "forced" on the company by wholesale energy costs.

The rise will take effect from 23 January.

It is expected to increase the average customers daily bill by 7.9p in Guernsey and 8p in Jersey, where gas prices are slightly higher.

Mr Davies said prices were expected to remain high "for the foreseeable future".

Prices last increased in May, when they rose by 5%.

The company advised customers to ensure their gas appliances and systems were operating properly in order to save energy.
