Two people were rescued by the Alderney lifeboat after their yacht broke away from its moorings in Braye Harbour.

The Roy Barker I and the RNLI boarding boat were launched just after 06:00 GMT to aid the 36ft (11m) German yacht Loki, after its crew raised the alarm.

A RNLI spokesman said the yacht was safely secured alongside Commercial Quay by 06:45.

He said the crew faced severe sea conditions, driving snow and a force nine wind gusting to storm force.
