Alderney's only fish and chip shop "could close" if it is not sold by next month, according its owners.

Jane Wright, who has run Braye Chippy with her husband for seven years, said the business had been on the market for the last year.

She said if no buyer was found by 4 May it would close for good.

"We have had quite a lot of interest but unfortunately no one has actually taken the plunge and said they want to give it a go," she added.

Mrs Wright said she was still hopeful somebody would take on the business which is being marketed for £98,000.

She said her husband had another business and her sister was leaving the island so she did not want to run the firm without them.
