High wind warning for Bailiwick of Guernsey

Storm force winds could hit the Bailiwick of Guernsey on Sunday night, forecasters have warned.

Martin Crozier, from the Guernsey Met Office, said: "We're going to have some fairly strong winds right across the weekend.

"The time to watch out is Sunday night really because that's when the winds are going to peak out at a force eight, possibly a force nine from south west.

"Obviously if you're out and about on Sunday night it could cause problems."

Captain Chad Murray, Guernsey's harbour master, said: "I would ask all boat owners to check their mooring arrangements, and ensure all loose items, canopies and such like are adequately secured.

"This equally applies to vessels laid up ashore. In view of the heavy rain also forecast, owners should also check they are able to pump out excess water where applicable to avoid vessels becoming swamped."

He said gale force winds were expected to continue throughout Monday and freight and passenger services were very likely to be disrupted during this period.
