A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of a firearm after a two-hour police operation.

Officers were called to the Bouet in St Peter Port at 07:20 GMT and later closed the road.

At 09:40 GMT officers, including some carrying firearms, arrested the 33-year-old man.

A force spokesman said the public "weren't in any danger" during the operation.

Following the arrest officers searched a nearby property. The arrest has been linked to some graffiti in the area.

The road reopened at 10:45. Its closure caused delays during the morning commute.
