Man seriously injured in TT course car crash

A 52-year-old man hurt in a two-car collision on the TT course was seriously injured, Isle of Man Police have said.

The crash, involving a VW van and silver Volvo, happened at Handley's Corner on the A3 Ballacraine to Kirk Michael Road on Monday evening.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Noble's Hospital, where the VW driver was detained with serious injuries.

The road was closed for about four hours for police investigations.

Insp Mark Britton, of Manx Police, said: "I apologise for any inconvenience caused to road users last night during the road closure.

"Essential investigations needed to take place.

"It was unclear as to the exact condition of either of the drivers at the time of the attendance of the emergency services and our priority was ensuring that the scene was managed in a safe way."

Investigations into the crash are continuing and police have appealed for witnesses.

The 72-year-old driver of the other vehicle was later discharged from hospital.
