Safety cordon lifted after Manx industrial estate fire

Firefighters have lifted an emergency cordon around an industrial estate in the south of the Isle of Man which was closed following a large fire.

About 40 firefighters from Douglas, Castletown and Port Erin tackled the fire at the Balthane industrial estate, in Ballasalla.

It took crews more than five hours to control the fire, which engulfed two warehouses

Firefighters remained at the site overnight to damp down the area.

The whole of the industrial estate, including Turkey Land Quarry, had been closed but the cordon was lifted on Tuesday afternoon the Emergency Services Joint Control Room (ESJCR) said.

But ESJCR added: "It will not be possible to go near to the building involved in the fire as the scene is still closed off."

Once the scene has been declared safe fire officers will begin an investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.
