Call to upgrade Isle of Man's youth provision

New ideas to improve leisure and social facilities for young people on the Isle of Man has been published by the island' s Council of Ministers.

Nineteen proposals for the 14 to 23 age group are outlined in the report.

These range from more venues for young musicians, to a bigger selection of mountain bike trails.

The report urges joined up action from government departments, local authorities and private and voluntary groups to upgrade existing facilities.

'Cheap fun'

A Chief Minister's Working Group was set up two years ago to assess what young people would like to see.

It said that making the most of existing facilities would be its focus rather than starting expensive new developments.

Ideas range from annual regional days for sports, arts, music and dance to local authorities to reviewing bans on ball games on open ground.

The recommendations will be considered by government departments over the next few months.
