The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, has visited the Isle of Man to launch a new fundraising trust to help young people and families.

The Sodor Partnership will share expertise with the Archbishop of York's Youth Trust to identify community and church groups in need of extra funding.

The Archbishop attended a dinner hosted by the Bishop of Sodor at St John's Mill on Friday to discuss the plans.

Independent trustees will help build up funds to support selected projects.

Other guests at the dinner included representatives of voluntary, community, government and church organisations and local business people, who it is is hoped may become supporters.

A Sodor Partnership spokesman said: "As we will work with the Bishop, projects supported will be those with some level of Anglican input but the intention is to work with people of other Christian traditions and in conjunction with secular agencies including voluntary organisations, community groups and government."
