Queen Elizabeth II High School road fears dispelled

The Manx minister for education has quashed fears that a school playing field could be divided by a new road after stating the land is not for sale.

Eddie Teare was responding to concerns from parents that a housing developer wanted to build a by-pass through Queen Elizabeth II High School's grounds.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne said he would never have approve such plans.

The parents' fears centred on a proposal to create a road between Poortown Road and Douglas Road.

Mr Teare said: "The land is in the department of education's ownership as I understand it and there's been no approach made to us as the landowners in connection with this matter.

"My view is quite strong and firm that we would not wish to sell this land or even part of it."
