Fire pumps 'improve safety at Douglas fuel site'
The Manx government has spent more than £2m improving safety measures at the oil and gas depots on Douglas Harbour.
A new pump house containing three fire pumps has been built near the Battery Pier Yard.
In the event of a fire in the area the pumps are designed to suck up water from the harbour to put out a blaze.
Member for Harbours David Callister said the scheme had not only improved safety at the fuel depot, but also in the adjacent residential properties.
He added: "The new fire pumps have been designed to meet current standards that have been much increased as a result of the major explosion and fire that occurred in the UK at Buncefield in December 2005."
