Carnival returns to Peel in Isle of Man

Street performers, fireworks and parade floats are set to highlight an annual carnival under way on the Isle of Man.

Peel Carnival is taking place for the 59th time, and is expected to attract large crowds to the west coast town it is named after.

The day-long event will be highlighted by a grand parade of floats at 14:30 BST and fireworks display at 22:30 BST.

The carnival has become more popular in recent years. Back in 2006 it was under threat due to a shortage of volunteers.
