Manx donation to African drought victims increases

Map of drought in the Horn of Africa

The Isle of Man has donated a further £100,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to help drought victims in the Horn of Africa.

The island's overseas aid committee pledged £50,000 of emergency funding to Oxfam for the same cause in July.

A spokesman from the chief minister's office said since then the crisis has escalated.

Minister Phil Gawne said: "The UN has reported that three more regions in Somalia have been struck by famine."
