Isle of Man police monitor road worker abuse

Motorist "abuse" towards department of infrastructure road workers has led to an increased police presence around the Isle of Man.

The IOM government said some members of the work force have been subjected to verbal abuse and threats from drivers.

Officers have now been positioned at some work sites and CCTV cameras will also be used to protect employees.

MHK Graham Cregeen said: "Workers should not have to put up with this narrow-minded aggression."

He added: "People may be frustrated by delays to their journey, but these employees are maintaining the island's road infrastructure on their behalf".

The government said anyone with views about road works can contact Ellerslie Depot to discuss their concerns.
