New housing planned for school field
A new development of up to 100 new houses is planned for a school field in the west of the Isle of Man.
The scheme was given the go-ahead after the government exchanged school land in Kirk Michael with Heritage homes.
The company has been given less than one acre of land at Michael primary school playing fields, in exchange for two acres from behind the building.
Heritage Homes has also agreed to build a new sports pitch and play area for the primary school.
The company plans to build no more than 100 homes on the site.
Education Minister Eddie Teare said the extra land secured by the department could eventually be used to build more classrooms.
"If we hadn't acted, there was the strong potential of development up to our existing rear boundary. We needed to protect the future of the school" he added.
