Commonwealth Youth Games: Li 'honoured' to carry flag

Isle of Man badminton player Ben Li says he feels "proud and honoured" to carry the Manx flag in the Commonwealth Youth Games' opening ceremony.

The 18-year-old, who also represented the island three years ago in Pune, said: "I was asked by the team manager and I said yes immediately.

"I will be proud and honoured to lead out the Manx team in front of a home crowd at the Bowl," he added.

The Earl of Wessex will open the Games on Thursday evening.

The Isle of Man will be the fourth Commonwealth nation to host the Games with the last being India, in 2008.

Out of the 32 Manx athletes competing at the Isle of Man Games, only Li and swimmer and captain, Grant Halsall competed in India.

Li, who recently completed his A-levels at Ballakermeen High School, added: "The support India's team received in Pune was phenomenal, so we are all looking forward to having the crowd behind us this time around."

The boxing competition will start on Thursday with all other sports starting on Friday morning.
