Severe weather conditions in the Irish Sea have led to ferry disruptions for the Isle of Man.

The gales, forecast for throughout Monday, meant all island sailings for Liverpool and Heysham were cancelled.

Most sailings on Tuesday are scheduled to go ahead although the Steam Packet Company said timetables could be disrupted.

A spokesman said passengers will be helped to find alternative travel arrangements, subject to availability.

He added: "Extra sailings were scheduled to provide additional capacity requested over the Commonwealth Youth Games period, with excess capacity available.

"The passenger capacity of the Ben-my-Chree will be increased to her maximum and passengers wishing to transfer will be given priority over new bookings."

All sailings for Tuesday, except the 0215 from Heysham to Douglas which has been cancelled, are currently scheduled to go ahead.

Passengers have been advised to phone the Steam Packet company for more information.
