Work begins on 'dilapidated' pavements in Isle of Man

Work has started on what the Isle of Man government described as its capital's "dilapidated" pavements.

The government said the scheme in Douglas would mean some traffic disruption until Christmas and beyond.

Prospect Hill will become one-way between Finch Road and Circular Road and temporary traffic signals will operate in the area.

The Department of Infrastructure plans to replace pavements between Circular Road and Athol Street.

A spokesman said lowered kerbs would be installed to allow easier access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

He added: "The work has been programmed to minimise disruption to traffic and pedestrians, with noisy excavation work being carried out outside of office hours to minimise the impact on local businesses.

"The department apologises for any inconvenience caused but would like to assure the public that these works will result in a significant improvement to the quality of pedestrian facilities in this busy part of Douglas".
