Isle of Man census shows population rise

The Isle of Man census for 2011 has shown a population rise of more than 4,000 people in five years.

The provisional figures, released by the treasury, show a 5% increase in island residents since the last census in 2006.

The census, which was taken on 27 March, shows an increase of 2,448 men and 1,991 women.

According to the official statistics there are currently more than 500 more women on the Isle of Man than men.
