Isle of Man government to act on fire safety

The Isle of Man government has warned property landlords that failing to meet fire safety regulations could lead to prosecution.

Minister for Home Affairs Juan Watterson said inspections carried out in November 2011 had seen about 300 properties fail to meet regulations.

He said those landlords had since been advised of the consequences to any future failure to meet regulations.

Any which failed to heed the warning could be prosecuted, he said.

He added that, while meeting requirements was the "responsibility of the owner or landlord", the government would work with them in order to rectify any problems.
