Isle of Man to tighten CCTV laws
The Manx government is looking to tighten up laws around the use of CCTV, the Home Affairs Minister has said.
Juan Watterson said he was keen to restrict public access to both live and recorded footage.
He described the use of CCTV as "an essential tool" in crime prevention and confirmed images had been used for cases as serious as murder.
"I am currently undertaking a review as to whether CCTV should be regulated in legislation," he said.
The response came after questions from MHK Bill Henderson in the House of Keys on 14 February.
Mr Henderson wanted to know how many cases the Attorney General had brought to trial using CCTV footage as part of the evidence.
Mr Watterson said while it was not possible to say how many cases involved CCTV material, it was requested on almost every case because advocates routinely asked to see material from the police custody block.
