Isle of Man election deadline reminder

Candidates have been reminded about the nomination deadline ahead of the Isle of Man local authority elections.

The elections will take place across the island on 26 April, with nominations closing on 29 March.

Elections for the Isle of Man's 24 local authorities occur every four years and involve a total of 160 seats.

An Isle of Man government spokesman said the 2008 elections saw a majority of seats uncontested and a low turnout of voters.

Chief Minister Allan Bell said: "Local authority members can make a significant difference to the quality of life and environment in their communities, in addition to ensuring value for money for the rate payers.

"Given the considerable fiscal challenge now facing the island, the role of local authorities and their members is more important than ever."
