Isle of Man energy scheme axed

An award-winning energy scheme in the Isle of Man will be axed at the end of March, says the environment department.

The Energy Doctor project won gold-category status at the Green Apple Environment Awards in 2011.

The free service, delivered by Age Concern Isle of Man, has received government funding for four years.

The initiative, which began in 2009, is a free service offering conservation advice, to householders who may be at risk of falling into fuel poverty.

Environment minister Phil Gawne said the service, which has carried out 850 island inspections, will be replaced with various online alternatives.

"We would like to urge those who are interested in taking advantage of this service, and have not already done so, to book a visit whilst it is still available," he said.
