Point of Ayre quarry fire leads to 24-hour road closure

A road could be shut for up to 24 hours because of a fire at a quarry in the north of the Isle of Man.

Cranstal Road in Bride, the road to the Pont of Ayre lighthouse, has been closed after a fire involving an acetylene cylinder on Monday.

A police spokesman said: "Due to the nature of the fire a 200m cordon is in place around the Sand Quarry entrance."

He added: "The closure will be in force for some considerable time, possibly up to 24 hours".

A fire and rescue service spokesman said: "Crews from Ramsey are currently dealing with the incident and motorists should avoid the area until further notice."
