Manx church service honours RNLI founder William Hillary
- 11 January 2014
- From the section Isle Of Man / Ellan Vannin
A church service is being held on the Isle of Man in honour of Sir William Hillary, who founded the Royal National Lifeboat institution (RNLI) in 1824.
From his coastal home on the Isle of Man, Sir Hillary witnessed dozens of shipwrecks which led him to set up the life-saving institution.
The service takes place every year at St George's Church in Douglas at 15:00 GMT on 12 January.
Afterwards, a wreath will be laid on Sir Hillary's tomb in the churchyard.
