A 15-year-old singer-songwriter has been named the Isle of Man's Next Big Thing 2014 after winning the talent competition at the Gaiety Theatre.

Mae Challis, a member of Douglas Soundcheck, won the title after singing one of her own compositions and playing guitar and keyboard.

Former X Factor finalist Christopher Maloney helped judge the competition.

Mr Maloney said: "There was some amazing talent on show but Mae's performance was outstanding."

The competition is part of the island's annual Junior Achievement talent contest.

Junior Achievement chief executive Sue Cook said: "Every year we're always amazed to see just how much truly fantastic talent is revealed."

In the run-up to the final, 162 acts were auditioned with 15 chosen to perform in the final.
