A group of Manx secondary school students have collected about 40 kilos of plastic during a beach clean on the west coast of the Isle of Man.

The five year 11 pupils from Queen Elizabeth II High School embarked on the beach clean as part of an environmental study programme.

It is thought the debris, about 450 bottles, was washed up at Niarbyl and Glen Maye during the recent storms.

A school spokesman said the rubbish also included rope and polystyrene.
