A 38-year-old man has appeared in court in the Isle of Man on charges relating to the robbery of a jewellery shop in the centre of Douglas.

Michael Bergquist, of Douglas, faced five charges at Douglas courthouse including robbery.

He entered no plea regarding the robbery but admitted three charges relating to a stolen motorcycle used in the raid.

About £25,000 worth of jewellery was stolen from RHS Jewellers on 9 May.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes remanded Mr Bergquist in custody until his next appearance by video on 17 June.

She said a committal hearing would take place on the 15 July at Douglas courthouse.

The shop owner was left shaken but was not injured in the raid, which involved a hammer.
