A man accused of causing grievous bodily harm has been refused bail at Douglas courthouse.

David Mitchell, 35, of Ballasalla, entered no pleas to charges of affray and possessing an offensive weapon.

Alex Messenger, 32, remains in hospital in Preston after he was attacked on the Clagh Vane estate on 18 May.

Douglas courthouse heard Mr Messenger was "no longer in a critical condition" but his "level of consciousness was unknown".

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes refused a request for bail and returned Mr Mitchell to custody where he has already spent nine days.

Mrs Hughes set a committal date for 15 July where he will face all three charges including causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mr Mitchell will next appear in court via videolink on 24 June.
