Isle of Man police cell block cash approved

The Isle of Man parliament of Tynwald has approved funding of £2.8m to build a new 20-cell custody block at Police Headquarters in Douglas.

Home Affairs has been given the go-ahead to replace the existing 40-year-old facility at Lord Street station.

Lord Street is one of three police stations to close in the next year due to cuts within the constabulary budget.

A government spokesman said building work on the new block is scheduled for completion by March 2015.
