The Isle of Man's Mountain Road has been closed "as a precaution" ahead of storm-force winds forecast to hit the island on Thursday.

The government said the route will be closed to traffic between 12:00 and 18:00 during the height of the storm.

The Met Office said the south and the west of the island will be worst hit, with wind speeds of 80mph.

An infrastructure spokesman said the Mountain Road may reopen before 18:00 if it is considered safe.
