Gale force winds forecast for the Irish Sea have forced the cancellation of ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire.

The scheduled 08:45 GMT service between Douglas and Heysham and the return 14:15 have been cancelled.

The Steam Packet Company said their 19:45 sailing and overnight return crossing were subject to disruption.

A spokesman for the Isle of Man Met Office said south-westerly winds could reach severe gale-force nine at times.

All passengers have been advised to contact the Steam Packet Company.
