Tynwald approves £7.2m plan for new mental health unit

Plans to build a new £7.2m mental health unit on the Isle of Man have been approved by the Manx parliament.

A funding application for the hospital, which will replace Grianagh Court in Braddan, was granted on Tuesday.

The current unit has been operated at 100% occupancy for several years and does not meet current or future needs, said a Department of Health spokesman.

The new building, based near Noble's hospital, will accommodate up to 26 patients - 30% more than at present.
