A man has been seriously injured when his motorcycle collided with a car in the Isle of Man.

The crash happened on the A18 Mountain Road in the vicinity of the Mountain Box at about 16:35 BST on Saturday.

Police said the 58-year-old visitor from outside the UK, who was riding a blue Honda VFR motorcycle, crashed with a blue BMW car driven by an 18-year-old local man.

The rider was taken to Nobles Hospital in a serious condition.

He has since been transferred to Merseyside by air ambulance for treatment.

The BMW driver and a female front seat passenger were unhurt.

The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of motoring offences and was subsequently bailed without charge while enquiries are ongoing, police said.

Police had advised road users to take precaution on Saturday as there was low lying mist in the area.

Insp Andy Kneen thanked members of the public who "rendered immediate first aid and did traffic control at the scene".
