Strong winds forecast for parts of the British Isles are expected to hit Isle of Man ferry sailings on Thursday.

The Steam Packet company said the Douglas-to-Heysham service at 08:45 GMT and its return at 14:15 are "subject to disruption or cancellation".

The Manx Met Office issued an yellow weather warning as 60mph (97km/h) winds and heavy rain hit the island.

A spokesman said "plummeting temperatures" on the island could also mean "icy roads and wintry showers".

He added: "Scattered wintry showers are likely to arrive later on Thursday, turning heavy at times, with hail or snow over high ground initially but these lowering to sea-level overnight".

The Steam Packet Company said passengers booked on sailings on Thursday and Friday should check with the company's call centre before travelling.
