First nomination meeting for Jersey centeniers
Voters in two Jersey parishes will meet later to propose their candidates for the post of centenier.
They are the first of several nomination meetings leading to island-wide elections next month.
Centeniers are senior members of the honorary police force. They are the only officers in Jersey able to charge and bail offenders.
There are 14 centenier posts in Jersey and each parish is holding meetings where candidates will be proposed.
The first of these are in St Brelade and St Saviour on Monday evening.
In parishes where there is only one candidate, the centenier will be declared there and then.
Where there is more than one candidate, the election will be on 9 March.
The successful new post holders will be sworn in by the Royal Court two days later.
Centeniers serve a three year term of office.
