Waitrose creates more than 100 jobs in Jersey

A supermarket chain has created more than 100 jobs at three new stores in Jersey.

Waitrose has opened the first of its stores on La Rue des Pres in St Saviour.

The supermarket chain is selling products from about 25 local food and drink producers.

The company said it had also recruited more than 200 employees from the three Sandpiper CI-owned supermarkets which were taken over last year.

Waitrose already has about 250 stores in Britain and the Rue de Pres branch is the company's first outlet outside the UK.

One Jersey business to benefit from the Waitrose take over is Sweet Inspirations, owned by Emma Carlton.

Ms Carlton told BBC News she has had to expand her dessert-making business to meet the company's demands.
