Pedestrian hit by car in Jersey in stable condition

An 18-year-old pedestrian injured when he was hit by a car in Jersey is in a serious but stable condition in Southampton hospital, police have said.

It happened on the Grande Route De La Cote, St Clement, at about 2230 GMT on Sunday.

States of Jersey Police appealed for witnesses to the crash, which involved a silver Ford Escort.

Insp Alan Williamson said the pedestrian suffered "serious injuries" in the collision.

He said: "Paramedics at the scene treated the pedestrian and he was taken to the General Hospital with serious injuries."

The Grande Route De La Cote (St Clement's Coast Road) was closed while accident investigators examined the scene.

Insp Williamson said the driver, who was believed to be travelling towards St Helier, was not hurt in the crash.

The injured man was flown to Southampton for further treatment.
