A few suggestions to help get the best out of island life.


The Metropoliton Opera production of Lucia di Lammermoor (Gaetano Donizetti) will be broadcast live in HD at the Jersey Opera House on Sunday 19 March from 1800 GMT.

Natalie Dessay triumphed as the fragile heroine of Donizetti's masterpiece on Opening Night of the 2007-08 season in Mary Zimmerman's hit production. Now she returns to play the innocent young women driven to madness.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles. (Tickets from £15 to £17.50)

1970s punk band, Sham 69 will be performing at the Drift in St Helier on Thursday 24 March from 2100 GMT.

The band, formed in 1975 and have become one of Punks legends and some say Godfathers of Oi/Street Punk.

Entry to the event is free but is strictly 18+.

He is an English blues and country musician, best known for being part of supergroup Notting Hillbillies along with Dire Straits frontmen Mark Knopfler and Brendan Croker, he has also been playing as a solo artist for many years.   • Charlotte Hopley - a Christina Aguilera & Britney Spears tribute will perform from 2100GMT on Friday 11 March at the Drift. (Free entry)


Following on from the Time Team special, filmed around the Jersey War Tunnels, there will be a special 'living with the enemy walk' in St Peter.

It will explore what life was like for people, what they eat and how they knew what was happening in the outside world.

The walk takes you through occupation relics on c ountry lanes and up to a woodland area that had remained undistrurbed for 60 years - until Time Team visited in 2010.

Entry is £7, it is an easy walk and will be hosted by Blue Badge Guide Tom Bunting, who was involved in the occupation project that lead to the Time Team programme. The walk is on a range of dates ton Tuesday's and Thursday's from 17 March.

  • Sticking to the east of the island and every Friday from 1400GMT there is a walk around Gorey with Arthur Lamy.
  • There is also a Walk on the Wild Side every Saturday in March - guided by Kazz Padidar of Jersey Adventures. It introduces Jersey's wildlife and which plants are edible and medicinal. It teaches non-compass navigation and cordage making, together with knife demonstrations and fire-lighting techniques. Meeting point is advised when you book.
  • Every Sunday until September the Jersey Kart and Motor Club will be racing on the North Coast Track at Sorel Point in St John. (Free entry)

Art and Culture

The Jersey Textile Showcase is taking place from 7-13 March from 0930GMT to 1730GMT at the Harbour Gallery in St Aubin.

A major event within the textile art world involving talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and workshops led by top UK textile artists.

There is also a Saturday market featuring locally grown produce and craft. Entry is free, but workshops incur a fee.

  • The ArtsCentreTheatre will present a special production called 8 by 8 featuring three eight foot by eight foot platforms with a wooden chair. Twenty actors will present an equal number of monologues on those platforms. (Tickets from £5.95 to £9)
  • Speakers from the Edge presents John Beatty's Wild Vision takes place at the Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday 12 March at 2000GMT. He is a widely acclaimed nature, travel and adventure photographer. (Tickets £13 adults, £10 students)
