Jersey sport department review into over 50s classes

A review is taking place to find out what exercise classes for the over 50s should be kept and which should be scrapped.

People who use the classes were told some could be closing in April as part of States of Jersey spending cuts.

The department that runs them said those that have fewer than 12 in each class are unviable.

Julie Huelin, who wrote to the department to complain, said the changes would affect a lot of people.

She uses a number of classes at Les Quennevais Sports Centre, including the body active class which attracts an average of five people per class.

But the head of the education sport and culture department, Derek de la Haye, said a review was needed.
