Jersey dog's sight restored by operation

A dog from Jersey had his sight restored after going completely blind.

Laddie, an 11-year-old West Highland terrier, lives with his owners Arthur and Theresa Bertrand, in St Saviour.

Laddie was partially blind in one eye due to diabetes, but one morning he was found to have lost sight in both eyes.

Mr and Mrs Bertrand said it was a distressing time and had been heartbreaking seeing him bumping into furniture and needing guidance towards his food and water bowls.

But with the help of some people in Jersey, including the Channel Islands Animal Health Trust, Laddie was flown by private plane for specialist surgery in the UK.

He had new lenses put in and his sight was restored.

His owners said the first thing he did off the flight back home to Jersey was to run into his home and grab his favourite toy.
