The charity behind plans to build a community centre in a field in St Saviour is now considering other ideas following public opposition.

The Rotary Club wanted to use an agricultural field across the road from St Saviour's School.

A campaign group, calling itself Save Our St Saviour, organised a public meeting opposing the plans.

John Reed, Chairman of the Good Companions Club Committee, said other options were being considered.

More than 300 people went to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss plans to build a community centre in the field.

The Rotary Club wanted to build a social club for older people, a medical centre and exercise room.
