Jersey urged to look to France for trade links

A group promoting Normandie in Jersey is urging island companies to look to France for trade links.

A trade convention in France will aims to help Jersey firms find sources of supply in France instead of automatically looking to England.

The Maison de Normandie in St Helier, a group that promotes Normandie in Jersey, organised the day-long event.

Aurelie le Roy from Maison de Normandie said the aim of the meeting on Friday was to build regional trade links.

She said the event in St Malo would include a series of meetings between firms with similar interests.

"We are so close, it is just one hour away, so simple, since last year when the freight link started things have really picked up."

The event stemmed from a decision a year ago by Huelin Renouf to set up a new freight service to the Islands from Cherbourg.

Similar workshops were held in Jersey and Guernsey in 2010 and the Maison said they proved to be a great success in producing new business links.
