Jersey's Hautlieu School to twin with Chinese school

Jersey's Hautlieu School is to be twinned with a secondary school in China.

Eighty students visited the country as part of a trip that was organised with the help of the Chinese Embassy in London in 2010.

The Chinese Ministry of Education has agreed to formally twin Beijing Ba Yi Middle School with Hautlieu School.

Jersey's Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Freddie Cohen, proposed the twinning idea in June.

Senator Cohen said it was an opportunity for Jersey students to develop an understanding of the largest developing economy in the world and expand their career prospects.

He and Senator Philip Ozouf recently discussed a similar project with the Prime Minister of Malta, with the aim of continuing to develop Jersey's links with international schools.
