Jersey minister hopes job creation will help youth

Jersey's economic development minister has said he hopes the creation of new jobs will help young people get back to work.

One in five people looking for a job has been unemployed for more than a year and a third are under 25.

Senator Alan Maclean said schemes such as Advance to Work, which helps young people find employment, could help.

He said Advance to Work had seen 200 full-time jobs created for people on the scheme since it started in 2009.

The minister said: "We need to continue to turn our attention and priority on getting people who are out of work, particularly young people, into employment as soon as we can."
