Jersey's Fire Service called to two out of control bonfires

Jersey's Fire and Rescue Service was called out to two out of control bonfires on Saturday night.

Just after midnight they had a call to say the bonfire at the Farm House was burning out of control in strong winds.

And less than an hour later they were called to Les Platons where a bonfire had spread to nearby furze.

Watch Commander Dave Dingle said although it was relatively small at 10 by 10 metres it could have spread into a wildfire in the gusty winds.

Both fires were put out by the early hours of Sunday.

The Ambulance Service said there had been no firework related injuries this weekend.

A spokesman for the fire service said the general public had been good in abiding with safety advice over the weekend.
