Free school milk sponsoring campaign starts in Jersey

A campaign has been launched to give children free milk at school in Jersey, after the States withdrew funding in 2010.

The Milk Matters campaign aims to work with 37 businesses to sponsor each school so free milk can be provided.

Jersey Dairy, chef Shaun Rankin and marketing agency The Refinery are behind the campaign.

Local businesses will be able to connect with their community through the scheme, organisers have said.

Mr Rankin said getting local businesses involved will "instil a sense of community".

In 2010, Jersey's government voted to stop providing free milk in schools as part of spending cut plans.

Estimates suggest the cost of providing milk to all schools would be £138,000 a year.
