The amount of money raised at this year's Jersey Soup Kitchen was down on previous years.

Organiser Michelle Cuthbert said £11,544 was raised for the Jersey Shelter Trust.

But she said she was not surprised there was a drop in takings because other charities were also suffering during the recession.

She said it was a shame because it is during a recession that people needed more help from the Shelter Trust.

She said: "The recession is hitting people, there's no doubt about that, the unfortunate thing of course is that when it's hitting people it's hitting those from the Shelter probably more than most and the funds are even more needed."
