An 18% increase in St Helier Christmas shoppers
Jersey's town centre was 18% busier last week than the same time last year, new figures have shown.
Cameras in King Street picked up an extra 40,703 visitors compared with the week before Christmas in 2010.
There was a total of 262,796 visits to town, and the busiest shopping day was last Thursday, with 54,835 visitors.
David Elliot, of department store Voisins, said because Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, it gave people a full week of shopping in the build-up.
He said: "I think because people knew they had a whole week to shop before Christmas day and that actual week was absolutely fantastic and that recovered some of the poorer weeks earlier in December."
