Research into impact of dementia on Jersey relatives

Research is being conducted in Jersey into dementia and the impact it has on the relatives of those who have it.

Sian Wareing-Jones is conducting the research which has been supported by the Jersey Alzheimer's Association.

She said she hoped to find out the recurring difficulties relatives faced and to inform service providers about what could be done to support them.

As part of the research she will be talking to carers and relatives of those with dementia.

Ms Wareing-Jones said: "I saw that relatives were really distressed.

"I was seeing that in those visits relatives almost didn't know what to do, they didn't know how to be with that person with dementia, maybe someone they had been married to for 50 years."

The results will be presented to Alzheimer Europe.
